President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky congratulated his compatriots on the anniversary of the baptism of Russia. He noted that there was an inseparable link between the two states. Zelensky's video report was released on July 28 on the President's Office website.
According to politics, modern Ukraine is the heir of powerful European states. “Today we celebrate the Day of Baptism of Kievan Rus – Ukraine.” This is the official and, most importantly, historically fair name of the holiday, which emphasizes the inseparability of both states, “said Zelensky.
In his speech, the President noted a number of historical monuments in Ukraine. He recalled that Moscow's founder Yuri Dolgoruky was buried in the Church of the Savior in Berestov, Kiev.
Earlier, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that the baptism of Russia was a choice of belonging to Europe. According to him, the takeover of the Tomos by the Orthodox Church in Ukraine confirmed this choice.
On the eve, a religious procession was held in Kiev in honor of the 1033rd anniversary of the baptism of Russia. The prayer service on the occasion of the anniversary will last three days.
