President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelenskiy said he expects German Chancellor Angela Merkel to provide energy guarantees during her visit to Kiev after her trip to Moscow.
In an interview with several publications from the Normandy Four countries and the United States, Zelensky said he did not expect Merkel to have any “gifts” that had not been there in recent years, but expected that during the meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin will be able to reach certain agreements beneficial to Kiev.
“These can be guarantees,” Zelenskyj said – For example, the fact that Russia will agree to supply minimum volumes of gas.
Zelenskyj also noted that Merkel is pragmatic in her dealings with Russia and chooses a “way of balancing” that seeks to maintain relations with Russia. In his view, from Ukraine's point of view, “it's too soft.”
