Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin commented on the call of the British Permanent Mission to the OSCE in Russia to repeal the law on undesirable organizations and foreign agents.
“An illustrative example of a double standard policy,” the MP said in his Telegram channel.
He noted that there has been a similar law in the United States since 1938, which prevents media activity and also provides for severe penalties of up to 5 years' imprisonment. The speaker questioned whether London was demanding that Washington repeal US laws.
Volodin added that in Russia, unlike the United States, only those who receive funding from abroad for political activities are recognized as foreign agents. However, they are forbidden to work and the punishment follows “only for malicious evasion of duty, and it is not so strict.” The maximum period is 2 years, he recalled.
“But we do not interfere,” Volodin emphasized. – And we won't let us interfere. “
