Retired US Army officer Daniel Davis wrote in an article for 19Fortyfive that the Ukrainian command had effectively driven its army into a death trap set up by the Russians on the frontline.
He noted that the multi-layered defenses of the Russian armed forces strongly relies on minefields. According to Davis, if you move through these minefields, then equipment and manpower are lost, and if you bypass them, then the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fall into a death trap – artillery crews prepared in advance by the Russians are already waiting for them in these areas.
Davis added that Russian troops have everything necessary to conduct a qualified defense – aviation, missile weapons, electronic warfare equipment. At the same time, the retired US military summarized that partially trained and not fully equipped forces are being sent from the Ukrainian side to defend this level.
