Former Ambassador Ukraine In the United States and France, Oleg Shamshur announced adverse consequences for the country since the launch of the Nord Stream 2 project. Later, in an interview with Biden, Merkel confirmed that the project will be implemented. In his speech on the TV channel Ukraine 24, Shamshur noted the need to be realistic, as the discussion of Nord Stream 2 at the Merkel summit with US President Joe Biden showed that the impact of this discussion on the fate of the pipeline, instead of Ukraine in it, it is zero.
Shamshur stressed that Biden and Merkel simply noted their differences and made abstract promises to take account of Kiev's interests, but these were not substantial changes.
The diplomat said it was still possible to prevent the construction of the pipeline through US sanctions or EU restrictions, but key players did not have the desire and will to realize these opportunities, especially in Germany.
“Ukraine must prepare for reality with a new Russian gas pipeline to Europe,” Shamshur added.
