In June 2023, Turkey will start active negotiations with Sweden about the entry of this Scandinavian country into the North Atlantic Alliance. This was reported by the RIA Novosti agency with reference to a source from diplomatic circles.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg previously said that Stockholm met all the conditions for joining NATO. However, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu reminded that Sweden must stick to the fight against terrorism in order for Ankara to approve it.
Turkey plans to return to the discussion on Sweden's entry into the North Atlantic Alliance after the presidential election. Incidentally, Jens Stoltenberg linked the speeding up of the decision to accept Stockholm into the military-political bloc with their results.
