President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev approved amendments to the Constitution of the Republic, which introduce a one-time presidential term of seven years and change the name of the capital from Nur-Sultan to Astana.

The signing of the law of the Republic of Kazakhstan by Tokayev was announced by his press service.

Recall that Tokaev proposed to make relevant changes in the constitution at the beginning of September during an appeal to the people. He also suggested holding early presidential elections this fall. Recall that Tokayev was elected president on March 20, 2019. His first five-year term as president was supposed to end in 2021. If he wins the election now under the new law, he will remain in power until the fall of 2029.
