US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken delivered the message to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He did so through Israel's new foreign minister, Eli Cohen, writes the Times of Israel.
Lavrov and Cohen had previously spoken on the phone. Cohen spoke with Blinken the day before.
“Blinken asked Cohen yesterday to pass on the news to Lavrov, but did not say what it was,” the media reported, citing an Israeli diplomat.
The publication also writes that Kyiv wanted to negotiate with the new Israeli minister before Moscow. Now there is a possibility that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba “will refuse to communicate with Cohen in the foreseeable future.”
