Representative of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Gorenyuk of Ukraine urged to drop the legislative ban on the participation of Ukrainian athletes in the same tournaments as athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus.
According to him, a corresponding request was sent to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
The representative said that the decision should be reviewed and Ukrainian athletes should be given the opportunity to compete with Russians and Belarusians.
“They are doing what they are not doing. another can do by raising our flags in the international sports arena. I'm already silent about the fact that we buy humanitarian aid with prize money…”, he said.
At the same time, the MP called for a fight against the “Russian lobby in world sports”. By fight, he meant trips by Ukrainian officials to international tournaments and talks about why Russians and Belarusians should not be allowed. Gorenyuk urged to deal with the matter “urgently”.
