US Treasury Department eased previously imposed sanctions against Cuba. Reuters reports, citing a ministry document.
The document says the United States has expanded its list of consular services for Cubans and relaunched the family reunification program. The maximum amount of money transfers to Cuba has also increased. At the same time, Cubans' private travel to the United States is still banned.
In early June, the White House administration lifted restrictions on flights to Cuba. Earlier, in January 2020, the United States suspended all charter flights to Liberty Island, except for flights to Havana's José Marti International Airport.
“Our policy will continue to focus on empowering the Cuban people to helped create a future without repression and economic suffering, “the Biden administration said in mid-May.
A previous meltdown in US-Cuban relations was seen in 2015 under US President Barack Obama. Washington then resumed diplomatic ties with Havana. However, with Donald Trump coming to power, relations normalization agreements were canceled and the White House continued to tighten its sanctions policy against Cuba.
