The Pentagon has categorically denied reports that the US military had tried to hijack an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman. During a briefing, defense spokesman John Kirby called the allegations “utterly false and fraudulent.” The official commented on today's Iranian media reports that a US warship allegedly detained an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman and began pumping oil to another vessel, but the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval prevented the pirate attack.
The tanker is now in the territorial waters of Iran.
