The third largest city Afghanistan, Herat, has come completely under the control of the Taliban movement (banned as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation). This was reported by Agence France-Presse, citing a source in Afghan special services.
Herat is located in northwestern Afghanistan, in the Gerirud River Valley. According to the 2013 census, 436,000 people lived in the city. The ethnic composition of the population is diverse, with Tajiks, Uzbeks, Turkmen and Khazars living in the city.
Earlier, the Taliban announced the conquest of the city of Kandahar and before it, another large Afghan city, Ghazni, took control of the Taliban.
