Chief of Security Ukrainian Service Ivan Bakanov said that the imprisoned politician Viktor Medvedchuk, who had previously been accused of high treason and allegedly escaped from house arrest, was planning to move secretly to Transnistria. According to the head of the SBU, the refugee was caught on the way to the border.

Bakanov said that Medvedchuk intended to leave Ukraine and subsequently get to Russia. According to the head of the SBU, “FSB agents of the Russian Federation waited for Medvedchuk to take him to Moscow.”

“Medvedchuk was detained in the Kiev region on his way to the border” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Medvedchuk's arrest the night before, and the SBU soon confirmed the data, saying the politician had been in the country for about a month and even put on a Ukrainian military uniform to disguise himself. From the beginning, he was abducted from house arrest and falsely accused of fleeing to present him as a captured refugee. Meanwhile, Medvedchuk's wife made a video message to Zelensky demanding the release of her husband and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asking for help.
