If the uncontrolled arrival of people from a third country Finland will close the last checkpoint on the border with Russia. This statement was made by Prime Minister Petre Orpo in an interview with Radio Suomi.
“If necessary, Finland will close the eastern border – all its points,” he said. “And they are concentrating the reception of asylum applications elsewhere.” They mean that asylum applications can be submitted at Helsinki-Vantaa airport or seaports.
Currently, the country's authorities have closed seven of the eight border crossings on the land border between Finland and the Russian Federation. The Finnish side explains its decision by the uncontrolled arrival of citizens of third countries.
