The Polish Parliament adopted decision to support the introduction of a state of emergency on the territory bordering Belarus. This is stated in the corresponding document.
Former state of emergency on the Polish-Belarusian border was introduced by decree by Polish President Andrzej Duda. The president made this decision on September 2, 2021. Although the decree entered into force when it was signed by the head of state, it had to be ratified by the Seimas according to the Polish constitution.
The legislature supported the president's initiative. However, the Polish Seimas reserves the right to lift the state of emergency by a majority vote.
As for the reason for introducing a state of emergency on the border with Belarus, there is a desire to prevent the flow of illegal migrants from the Middle East entering Poland from Belarus. Recently, the flow of illegal migrants has increased, and spontaneous migrant tent camps have appeared on the Belarusian-Polish border. In addition to border guards, army units also took part in protecting the state border and combating the infiltration of illegal migrants.
