Head of Transbaikal Territory Alexander Osipov said that almost 12 thousand people were affected by the three waves of floods in the region. They live in about 50 settlements.
Authorities estimated the damage caused by the uncontrollable catastrophe at 3.7 billion rubles. Emergency rescue work has already begun, but is limited by a lack of funding.
The regional government previously said that the damage caused by the floods reached 2.2 billion rubles. The number of victims was estimated at 6.7 thousand people. Humanitarian aid is being collected in the region.
