European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen he said the EU would like to have good relations with Russia. She said this during her speech to the plenary of the European Parliament. Von der Leyen also noted that it all depends on Moscow's actions.
At the beginning of her speech, the head of the European Commission noted that information about the concentration of Russian troops at Ukraine's borders is increasingly appearing in the media. In her view, Russia's actions indicate attempts to destabilize the situation in the neighboring republic.
Von der Leyen recalled that Europe intended to guarantee security and protect Ukraine's territorial integrity.
“Of course we want to have good relations with Russia, but it depends on his actions,” she said.
The head of the European Commission added that Europe is ready to extend sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalating conflict. She noted that the EU, in cooperation with the US, is already preparing possible measures against Moscow.
