The report states that the Taliban tried to seize the journalist himself, who was already in Germany at the time.
Terrorists did not find him and confiscated two of his relatives, one of whom died and the other was seriously injured.
The rest of the journalist's close relatives managed to escape and are currently hiding from the militants. It is also noted that the gunmen came to the homes of relatives of at least three employees of the media company.
The search took place in Kabul and the provinces. DW concluded that the Taliban were purposefully looking for journalists.
“The murder of a relative of one of our employees by the Taliban shows how dangerous it is today to be for journalists and their families in Afghanistan,” DW CEO Peter Limburg said in a statement. He called on the German government to “take decisive action”. This call was signed by representatives of other leading German media.
Afghanistan's Committee to Protect Journalists has also previously announced that local journalists are at risk of death. In this regard, the organization called on the United States to protect its colleagues.
