“Smile”: The American pilot talked about the humor of Soviet pilots during wiretapping

American pilots were hit once sensual humor of Soviet colleagues who lifted MiG aircraft into the air to intercept American fighters. One of the American pilots, whose memory was included in the collection of stories dedicated to Douglas F3D Skyknight (F-10) air missions, said that Soviet pilots reported during the interception that they were being photographed by air opponents.

According to the Theaviationgeekclub, pilot Chuck Houseman confirmed that they had 35mm handheld cameras.

“The Russians reported on the radio that they were being filmed and asked them to do so. Then one of the dispatchers decided to joke and replied: “Smile” – we remember Houseman, adding that the Americans would never have thought that the Russians had a sense of humor at all.
