Direct responsibility for catastrophic the outcome of the US-NATO operation in Afghanistan rests with four US presidents – George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder wrote about it in T-Online.
According to a German politician, the capture of Kabul by the Taliban (the Taliban movement is banned in the Russian Federation as a terrorist organization) now resembles the escape of Americans from Saigon. Such a sad outcome to the US operation in Afghanistan was caused by the wrong policies of all US leaders who have ruled since 2001. Schroeder himself, when he was chancellor, supported NATO's operation in Afghanistan, but at the time could not imagine turning a war lost in twenty years.
Bush Jr. Schroeder's main mistake was the so-called operation in Iraq, which he launched in 2003, which withdrew part of US forces and allowed the Taliban to gain support. Obama has changed Afghanistan's course several times, signaling the beginning of a fiasco in US politics. Trump made unilateral decisions and agreed with the Taliban to withdraw troops, and Biden carried out the withdrawal.
Schroeder also recommended working more actively with Russia, China, Iran, Turkey and Pakistan on the Afghan issue, as the West has lost confidence and these countries have some influence and capabilities.
