German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said after a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin that Putin does not yet realize that the decision to launch a special military operation in Ukraine was a mistake. Reuters writes about it.

The conversation between Putin and Scholz took place on Tuesday and lasted an hour and a half. The chancellor called on the Russian president to “as soon as possible find a diplomatic solution based on a ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.”

Scholz also warned Putin that any steps taken by the Russian authorities would not go unanswered .

The press service of the Kremlin reported that Vladimir Putin in the interview “sharpened” Scholz's attention “to Ukraine's flagrant violation of international humanitarian law by the party, constant shelling of the cities of Donbass, as a result of which civilians are killed and intentionally harmed civil infrastructure.”

Shortly before the interview with Putin, Scholz had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He assured him of Berlin's support.

The Russian authorities emphasize that the special military operation will continue until the set goals are achieved.

The day before, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said this at the first meeting of the autumn session that “time has once again shown the correctness of our president's decision to launch a special military operation.”

On Wednesday, Volodin called on deputies to discuss the details of the special operation behind closed doors.
