Former President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, who ended up in the intensive care unit of the prison clinic after a long hunger strike, will be taken to a military hospital in Gori. The Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze announced this at the briefing.
“This is a place where his health and safety will be protected as much as possible,” said the head of the Ministry of Justice.
He noted that transporting Saakashvili to the hospital would require his consent. At the same time, the politician must guarantee that he will stop the hunger strike and not provoke provocations.
The day before, it was announced that the ex-president had fainted at the prison hospital. It was decided to transport him to intensive care. A consultation convened by a prison resuscitator assessed the state of politics as critical. Doctors said it was necessary to transport Saakashvili to a multi-profile hospital, where there is also an intensive care unit. The former president was detained in Tbilisi on October 1, just after he returned home from Ukraine. . He went on a hunger strike on the first day of his imprisonment.
Saakashvili was found guilty of his absence in two criminal cases. He was sentenced to a total of nine years in prison.
