Dmitry Peskov commented “Repentant letter” by Alexander Sokurov, written by HRC leader Valeriy Fadeev. In it, the filmmaker apologized for the discussion with the president at the HRC meeting and informed about the threats against him.
“We saw the news in the media. We believe that during the negotiations and during a very meaningful and interesting discussion, nothing happened that would require an apology, “said a spokesman for the Kremlin.
He also said that there was nothing in Sokurov's statements that “could endanger his life.” “There has been a debate. There is nothing to apologize for,” Peskov said, adding that he himself was critical of Sokurov because he was “absolutely in solidarity” with the president's view.
As for the concerns about his life, expressed by the filmmaker in a letter to Fadeev, “it's an emotional and hypertrophied reaction and nothing else.”
Peskov stressed that if such a threat did occur, Vladimir Putin would definitely
protect Sokurov. In addition, “no appeal to law enforcement will go unanswered.”
