President of the External Church Moscow Patriarchate Relations, Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfejev) of Volokolamsk, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that he was considering a “third country” as a meeting place for Pope Francis and the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill. According to him, Patriarch Kirill is not currently planning a visit to the Vatican to meet with the pope.
“The possibility of holding such a meeting not in Russia or Italy, but somewhere in a third country is being discussed. There will be no recurring meetings in Havana either, “Hilarion said.
He added that the meeting would probably take place after Easter, but the exact date has not yet been agreed.
