NATO will leave Ukraine as well as Afghanistan – LPR ambassador

NATO will not be Rodion Miroshnik, the head of the LPR office in Moscow, told TASS in an interview.

According to him, the alliance has no reason to assume obligations to protect Ukraine, therefore NATO will be limited to supplying weapons to Kiev if it is profitable .

“Then they will just finish the operation, like they did in Afghanistan,” Miroshnik said.

The operation by US and NATO allies in Afghanistan continued for about 20 years, after which the troops were withdrawn and power came was given to the Taliban movement, which is banned in Russia.

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Kyiv had requested an accelerated accession to NATO. Aleksey Arestovich, an adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, said that Ukraine could join NATO as early as next July at a summit in Vilnius.

Politico, citing sources, said that the White House did not expect such an initiative from Ukraine. US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Washington would continue to support Ukraine in its “defense” but each country would consider granting Kyiv NATO membership on its own.
