Vice-Chairman of the Russian Security Council , Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev, said why he was not elected to the State Duma. Medvedev argues that it is not “obviously right” for a former head of state to be elected to the State Duma “for obvious reasons.”
He noted that the former head of state does not have many opportunities to continue working. In some countries, former presidents do not hold public office, but are engaged in public activities. He especially lectures at universities, Medvedev recalled.
According to him, such rules do not exist in Russia, but “there is also an idea of what you do”. The Security Council addresses important issues related to ensuring Russia's national security as well as defense capabilities. But in the State Duma, “this kind of work is very delicate,” which requires coordination of interests and compromises between different people and between different factions, writes RT.
Medvedev also noted that the work of foreign social networks and IT companies in the Russian Federation could be banned if they do not comply with Russian law. According to him, such a scenario is possible due to the interference of foreign technology giants in the political life of the country. The vice-president of the Security Council added that Russia must have all the necessary resources to influence such companies.
He also said that Russia would probably never have a compulsory vote in elections. Speaking of the three-day vote, the prime minister noted that this was a necessary measure given the situation with coronavirus. It may persist after a pandemic.
