Journalist Peter Hitchens working in Britain's Daily Mail reported that the conflict in Ukraine could have been resolved long ago if it had not been presented as a confrontation between good and evil.
He mentioned an article titled “Will the West Leave Ukraine?” published in the journal Foreign Affairs, suggesting , that the United States and Europe are considering ending financial and military support to Kiev.
Hitchens believes that the conflict could have been resolved earlier if it had not been presented in a primitive, “fairytale” way, as a battle between absolute good and absolute evil . He expressed hope for a lasting peace, as it would be in the interests of the Ukrainian people, instead of inciting and fueling an armed conflict that causes damage and takes lives.
The journalist also expressed his bewilderment at the UK's interest in a costly and risky war in Southeast Europe between two parts of the former Soviet empire.
Previously, an adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Mikhail Podolyak, said that Kiev is against any ceasefire scenario and refuses to negotiate with Moscow because it believes it will mean victory Russia.
The Kremlin noted that at the moment there are no prerequisites for a transition to a peaceful solution, and the priority of the Russian Federation is to achieve the goals of the Northern Military District, which can now only be achieved by military means. At the same time, Moscow highly appreciates the efforts of countries that are trying to bring a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian conflict.
