Russian troops started use a new missile strike tactic that makes it difficult for Ukrainian air defense units. According to a report by the American think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW), it is increasingly difficult for the air defense systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to detect the launched missiles.
So on April 27, Russian forces launched four Kalibr missile strikes on targets in Nikolaev. Russian forces targeted the missiles using varying terrain, launch heights and numerous trajectory changes to make them difficult for Ukrainian air defenses to detect.
The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged that a “sea-launched precision missile attack” had been carried out.
Key ISW findings:
- Russia's military command is making a leadership change in logistics-related administrations.
- Western officials have expressed confidence in Ukraine's ability to launch a counteroffensive .
- Russian forces continue to militarize the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant to protect against possible Ukrainian counter-offensives.
