Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu appealed to the city's residents to conserve water due to the possible threat of drought. He published the corresponding call on his account on the X social network.
In his message, the mayor called on all citizens to be more careful and economical when handling water. He also noted that the city and the country are at risk of drought. In light of this challenge, the mayor shared a weather report that no rain is expected in Istanbul next week and posted a picture of the weather forecast showing the maximum expected temperature of 34 degrees Celsius.
Since early July, the weather has been prevailing in the northwest of Turkey, as a result of which a sharp drop of 40% of the normal water supply in Istanbul was known at the end of July.
Local media reports that the water supply in Istanbul's reservoirs is only enough for 61 days.
