Presidents of Russia and France Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron agreed on an agreement to reduce tensions in the situation around Ukraine. The reason is the withdrawal of Russian troops from Belarus at the end of joint exercises with Minsk.

Russia will withdraw up to 30,000 Russian soldiers from Belarus, who are involved in the Allied Resolve-2022 exercise. The issue will be discussed at further meetings at which an agreement on dialogue on collective security issues should be concluded.

According to The Financial Times, the two leaders have reportedly reached an agreement that the Russian Federation will not accept new ” military initiatives “, as French officials said. The Russian side has also agreed to participate in a dialogue on the deployment of its armed forces.

Moscow has not yet confirmed the conclusion of the agreements. According to Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, all these matters require the consent of France's allies in the European Union and NATO. First, we are talking about the United States, writes the RBC.

The newspaper generally assessed the talks between the presidents of the Russian Federation and France as a step towards resolving tensions around Ukraine. The publication also recalled that Putin and Macron did not discuss the agreement during a joint press conference.

Meanwhile, after talking to Putin, Macron made a statement on ensuring stability in Europe. According to him, it is necessary to build new mechanisms that would ensure stability in the region. However, these new provisions cannot be built up “by revising the treaties of the last 30 years and revising the fundamental principles or by restricting fundamental European rights,” the French leader said.
