EU High Representative Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the EU would not be able to mediate in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
According to him, Russian representatives will not accept EU mediation in negotiations.
“The Russians will certainly not accept this, just as we will not accept Russia as a mediator. I would add that China is also not suitable because it supports Russia more. Turkey now has good relations with both sides, which is helping the country's officials do a good job, “Borrell said. He added that only Russia, Ukraine and the mediator should determine the course of the negotiations. At the same time, Borrell did not comment on the possible results that the parties could achieve at the negotiating table.
