High Representative European Union Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell condemned the actions of the rebels in Guinea and called on them to release the head of state.
“I condemn the takeover of power in Guinea by force and called for the immediate release of President Alpha Conde,” he wrote on Twitter.
The head of European diplomacy also called on all events to uphold the law in the interests of peace and the well-being of the republic's population.
On September 5, rebel leader Colonel Mamadi Dumbuya announced the dissolution of the Guinean government and the closure of the country's borders. He later added that President Alpha Conde had been captured and was in a safe place.
