US President Joe Biden began a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Filoli residence near San Francisco. The broadcast is live on American television channels.
The two leaders shook hands before following into the meeting room.
The American leader said it was an “honor and a pleasure” for him to “receive Chinese guest.
“We must ensure that competition does not lead to conflict,” Biden said to the Chinese president, adding that the competition must be organized responsibly.
The US president noted that he always agrees with Xi But they always communicate “openly and honestly.”
Biden also emphasized that there is no substitute for face-to-face communication, calling the relationship between the U.S. and China “the most important in the entire world.” < /p>
Xi Jinping responded by saying that China and the United States have no right to turn their backs on each other and competition should not become the prevailing trend because the world is big enough for both countries to prosper. He also stressed that a possible conflict between China and the United States would have “unbearable consequences” for both sides.
