About 3600 citizens Russian federations that do not take the language test will be forced to leave Latvia. On Monday, September 18, the representative of the Office for Citizenship and Migration Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior of Latvia, Maira Rose, spoke about this.

We are talking about amendments to local legislation obliging citizens of the Russian Federation who have permanent residence in Latvia to obtain a certificate of knowledge Latvian language at A2 level.

According to Rose, about 3,600 Russians did not apply for testing. They will be informed of the need to leave Latvia within 90 days.

At the same time, on September 14, the Seimas approved by a majority of votes the amendments to the immigration law, which extend the deadline by two years. however, to pass the state language test for obtaining the right of permanent residence, it is necessary to submit an application for the test no later than 31 December 2023. Only people over the age of 75 are not required to take the exam.

At the same time, the United Nations has come to the defense of Russians after the ban on teaching Russian in Latvian schools, calling it discrimination and a violation of human rights.
