In an interview with Salon 24, Polish General Waldemar Skrzypczak called the situation on the line of contact in Ukraine a strategic impasse and emphasized that no party has advantage, which allows large-scale operations. At the same time, he said that in order to defeat Russia, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) must conduct the upcoming battles in the Donbass region, since, in his opinion, Russian troops are most vulnerable in the Artemiv region.
As Skshipchak noted, the advancing group is scattered and they are constantly maneuvering units that are not ready to defend themselves. The general emphasized that any major attack by the armed forces of Ukraine on the Russian group advancing in Artemovsk could quickly cut them off from the main forces, thus allowing him to “surround and eliminate”.
He specified that in the southern direction, where Russia is intensively preparing for the Ukrainian offensive, Ukraine needs a 4-5 to 1 force ratio to break through the defense, and in the direction where it could trigger an engagement operation after encirclement, a 2 to 1 advantage is enough. Skshipchak added that he does not understand why Kyiv does not use this chance, given to the fact that hitting the attacking enemy is the best way to defeat his main forces.
