National Council for electronic media (NSESMI) will block access to Russian social networks Odnoklassniki, VKontakte and Moi Mir in Latvia next week. This was announced by the head of the council, Ivars Abolins.

As Lsm.lv learned, the council allegedly received irrefutable evidence that the platforms belong to and are controlled by Yuri Kovalchuk and Vladimir Kiriyenko. Both are under EU sanctions for violating Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Following the launch of a special operation in Ukraine on April 29, Latvia suspended the broadcasting of dozens of Russian and Belarusian channels to prevent threats to the republic's security. The relay company Global Media appealed against this decision to the district administrative court. TNT-Comedy, TNT4 International, Friday International, KHL TV Channel and TNT Music have returned to the information space. But Ivars Abolins intends to appeal the ruling.
