German Chancellor Olaf Scholz intends to invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 summit in June. The meeting will try to convince the head of India of the need to support sanctions against Russia, Bloomberg writes on Sunday, citing its sources. In addition to Modi, meetings are planned with representatives of Indonesia, South Africa and Senegal.

According to agency sources, the German chancellor doubted Modi's offer of cooperation because the Indian side does not impose restrictions on Russia and does not criticize its actions in Ukraine. In addition, India has increased imports of Russia's natural resources.

European countries want to strengthen Russia's blockade and are counting on it with the help of the Indian government, the agency said. At the G7 summit, the country's representatives will therefore “offer economic incentives that may lead India to reconsider its relations with Russia.”

In particular, the parties may propose simplified visa controls and the immigration of Indian workers to Europe. . The G7 can also help the Indian government reduce harmful emissions by providing the country with new technologies. In addition, the G7 representatives want to offer India an alternative to the Russian weapons it actively acquires. Sources in particular say no agreements will be signed at the summit – it's just a discussion so far.

According to some experts, India will be offered to join the G7 in Russia, which occupied by 2014, thus returns to grouping in G8 format.
