Estonia will not send new ambassador to Belarus, said Eva-Maria Liimets, head of the foreign ministry, according to the daily Eesti Paevaleht. The minister noted that Estonia did not recognize Lukashenko as the legitimate head of state, while the presentation of credentials could indicate a change in Tallinn's position.
On July 6, Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid appointed a new ambassador to Belarus. He now had to go through the procedure for handing over the credentials to Lukashenko. Liimets noted that Estonia does not recognize the results of the 2020 presidential election due to unrest.
Liimets believes that Estonia can either reduce the damage to its mission by choosing a chargé d & # 39; affaires, or leave the ambassador to work in Tallinn. Estonia is coordinating with its allies to show solidarity with Minsk. Further consultation is needed for the final decision.
