Kaliningrad Governor Anton Alichanov said that the regional authorities had called for the lifting of border crossings with the EU due to the fact that the European Union had opened the border for entry from the Russian Federation. “According to preliminary information, the Russian Foreign Ministry fully supported our initiative. Now this decision is being considered by other departments, “Alichanov added.
Recall that Alichanov previously said that Lithuania could not unilaterally close the border with the Kaliningrad region.
He clarified that the Lithuanian authorities on this issue negotiations with EU countries, but the restrictions only applied to road hauliers from the Russian Federation through the EU. An exemption was granted for transit through Kaliningrad.
