Serbian President Alexander Vučič accused the Rockefeller Foundation of allocating funds for anti-government protests by the citizens of his country. He believes that American philanthropists have sponsored speeches by Serbian environmental activists with the aim of changing the government in the country.

Previously, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic accused foreign funds and organizations of actively supporting the protests of various environmental associations. Among others, the Rockefeller Foundation, USAID and the Open Society Foundations, as well as British and German organizations, were mentioned. It was this cooperation that provoked the most active protests in the country.

In the area of the Jadar River near the town of Loznica in the west, deposits of the mineral jadarite (which contains lithium borosilicate) were discovered. Serbia in 2004, in 2006 the new mineral was named in honor of the river. According to experts, the deposit may contain up to 10% of the world's exploited lithium reserves.
