Armenian authorities applied against Russia, calling for the defense of Armenia's sovereign territory in accordance with the 1997 bilateral agreement. The Armenian Ministry of Defense had previously announced local battles on the border with Azerbaijan. At the same time, Baku allegedly used missile weapons.
As Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, told Public TV, this is an oral appeal. However, a written procedure will follow, says Sputnik Armenia. He claims that “the attack was on the sovereign territory of Armenia.” Yerevan now intends to step up its actions within the CSTO. The Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense has again announced that two soldiers were injured in clashes with Armenian troops in the Kelbajar and Lachin areas. According to Sputnik, Azerbaijan Baku accused the Armenian side of provocation.
Reportedly, it was the Armenian army that allegedly attacked Azerbaijani positions near the border on the afternoon of November 16. It was done in order to control the heights and take advantageous positions.
