Cape Verdean authorities released to US State Entrepreneur from Venezuela Alex Saab. Washington accuses him of laundering money for the government of Nicolas Maduro, writes CNN Espanol.
Saab was arrested at Cape Verde Airport in 2020 on a US arrest warrant. According to the diplomat's defenders, he was placed aboard the US Department of Justice on October 16.
Earlier on September 8, the Cape Verde Constitutional Court ruled in favor of extraditing Saab to the United States. The Venezuelan authorities demand his release and indicate his diplomatic status. Caracas called Saab's extradition to the United States a “kidnapping.”
