Wall Street Newspaper The Journal reported that in January 2021, German Chancellor Angela Merkel refused to call the recently inaugurated US President Joe Biden, who wanted to make her first call in a new position.

According to the newspaper, after moving to Joe Biden's White House, he decided that his first call to the foreign leader would be Angela Merkel. In the interview, he planned to discuss a return to transatlantic stability after the instability of the Trump era.

However, the German Chancellor had slightly different plans.

“Merkel refused the call because she was planning a trip to her country house near Berlin,” the publication said.

Later, the German chancellor asked the assistants to arrange a new telephone conversation. It took place on Monday, January 25, when Merkel returned to work. It is clarified that the first foreign state leader to whom Biden called was Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The conversation took place on January 23.
