About the principles of the operation Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer spoke about the unified European air defense system European Sky Shield at a joint press conference with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

According to him, project participants will be able to independently decide which objects to shoot down over their territory. He noted that this was the main participation in the project.

According to data from open sources, in October 2022, 15 European countries signed a declaration of accession to the German Union – this will require a joint acquisition of air defense. The project therefore included Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania and Great Britain. In July of this year, it became clear that Austria intends to join the European air defense system.

Earlier it was revealed that Slovakia has strengthened the security of its border with Ukraine, which is also the external border of the European Union (EU) with two systems air defense MANTIS coming from Germany.
