Vladimir Zelensky said three victories are needed in the United States and the European Union. He stated this at a joint press conference with Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics, who visited Kyiv.
According to the head of state, supporters of aid to Ukraine should win in Congress. Zelenskyy admitted that achieving this will not be easy. In addition, Kyiv needs the support of the European Union so that the $50 billion financial aid package “goes nowhere.” The head of state also said that Ukraine must avoid a veto on the decision to start negotiations on joining the EU.
On November 8, the leadership of the European Commission issued a recommendation to the EU Council on starting negotiations with Ukraine, Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as on granting the status of a candidate country for the accession of Georgia. At the same time, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that he does not intend to discuss this topic and at the same time noted that the government will not change its negative attitude towards Ukraine's entry into the EU.
In addition, the EU bodies asked the countries for additional contributions to the EU budget for the period 2024-2027 with the aim of allocating budgetary and military aid to Ukraine in the total amount of 70 billion euros. But the states are not in a hurry to do so yet.
Also uncertain is the allocation of financial aid by the US Congress.
