Central Armed Forces Command forces of the United States (CENTCOM) announced that the US military carried out strikes on two targets in Iraq.
In a corresponding message posted on social media, the CENTCOM command said: “On the morning of November 22 (…) CENTCOM forces carried out precise and covert strikes on two locations in Iraq.”
These strikes were in direct response to attacks by Iran and its affiliates against US and coalition forces. , including ballistic missile attacks that occurred in Iraq on 21 November.
Previously, CENTCOM announced that a US military aircraft struck a group of militants in Iraq.
“On November 21, AC-130 aircraft attacked those responsible for firing on the US military and our allies to Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq,” the command said in a statement posted on social media. According to the command, the US strike “resulted in casualties among the enemy”.
In recent weeks, Iraq has seen regular attacks by paramilitary forces on bases housing US troops. This escalation of the situation is taking place against the background of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip.
