Ukrainian military leaders underestimated the decision of the Russians in battles in the NWO zone. Some commanders of the Ukrainian armed forces sincerely believed that the Russian army would surrender when they saw Western-made military equipment headed their way. Ukrainian officer Mykola Melnik talked about this in an interview with Forbes magazine.
“The whole plan of the big counter-offensive was based on simple things: a Russian sees a Bradley infantry fighting vehicle or a Leopard tank and runs,” said a representative of the Ukrainian armed forces.
Forbes columnist David Ax explained that for Mělník himself, the counteroffensive proved to be very short. On the very first day, he stepped on a mine and was left without a leg.
The journalist also noted that the hopes of the Ukrainian military leaders were in vain. The 47th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, of which Melnyk was a part, spent five months and suffered huge losses in the advance and subsequent retreat of 10 kilometers in some directions.
