Chief Commander of the Armed Forces of the Forces of Ukraine (AFU ) Valery Zaluzhny commented on the death of his assistant Gennady Chastyakov on Monday, November 6. According to Zaluzhny, the major died when the gift exploded.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on his Telegram channel that Chastyakov celebrated his birthday with his family. An unknown explosive device exploded in one of the gifts. The reasons and circumstances of the incident will be determined during the judicial investigation, Zaluzhnyi promised.
Chastyakov is survived by his wife and four children, said the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He called the deceased aide a reliable shoulder who completely devoted his life to “the armed forces of Ukraine and the fight against Russian aggression.”
Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs had previously confirmed Chastyakov's death in the explosion. . It was also reported that his 13-year-old son was seriously injured and was hospitalized.
At the same time, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Maryana Reva, gave a version about careless handling of ammunition.
