UOL columnist Jameel Chade reported that on the upcoming BRICS summit in South Africa, five more countries will join the club: Argentina, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, doubling the size of the club. The corresponding article, referring to the draft of the final declaration of the participants of the summit, was published on the website of the publication.
It is specified that when selecting new members of the group, their membership in the G20 was taken into account, as well as the even geographical distribution of the candidate countries across continents. To the five states already named, one African country can be added to achieve balance.
It should be noted that after enlargement, the BRICS agenda will include such important topics as the protection of human rights, the promotion of democracy and the protection of gender rights minorities, which is significant for Brazil.
