The White House has announced that there have been no discussions about granting NATO membership to Ukraine in exchange for territorial concessions.
Earlier, the head of NATO Secretary General Stian Jenssen's office said that his words about Ukraine gaining membership in alliance in exchange for territorial concessions were made as part of a broader discussion about future scenarios for Ukraine. He noted that he should not have presented it in this format.
“There is nothing reliable about it. This is incorrect information,” commented John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator for the White House National Security Council. to reports of participation in discussions on Ukraine's NATO membership.
He also noted that the US position is that Ukraine has a future in NATO. Kirby emphasized that during the last summits of the organization, members of the alliance confirmed this.
